I continued to walk an endless dirt path
And it eventually came to a fork in the road
I found myself looking left and looking right
But the anxiety in the pit of my stomach
Was unsure of the direction I should go
The left is the past contained with a life no longer mine
I can hear my family laughing in the living room
The sound of chatter from the dining room table
Sunshine fills the room, all of my memories sunny and bright
I can smell my grandmother’s cooking
And freshly baked snickerdoodle cookies right out of the oven
She knew those were my favorite
Then the right offers me a future
Terrified it’ll never meet the expectations of my daydreams
I don’t like resting in the unknown,
Or when things in life are unresolved
And the future is filled with all of it,
While the past I can’t return to
