Familiar

There was a haze on the horizon of the summer heat
And it poured down on me
Reminding me of a time from before
From when I was less aware,
Never unsure, never full of doubt
Not afraid of what could and what may happen
My soul was filled with a peace
I was, without knowing, taking for granted
Small moments passed me each day
Sending whispers into my ears,
Telling me I shouldn’t miss this moment
Because one day you will be outside,
And the sun will shine against your skin
In a way that’s distantly familiar
Reminding you of who you were,
And what you lost
